Employee Rights and Signs of Retaliation in Woodlake

Think of this situation, you got into an accident and tried to file a claim under worker’s compensation. Since you feel it’s not fair, you file a complaint against the employer. So now, not only did the employer try to dismiss the claim, but he also retaliated against you in different ways. While it’s the responsibility of the employer to make sure that no such thing ever happens in a workspace, we all know that sometimes power gets the best of them. If something similar has happened to you, it’s time for you to get legal advice.

    Retaliation in the workspace:

Sadly, there have been reported cases where the employer retaliated against the employee in response to complaints regarding harassment or wrongdoing. No matter what, you should not have to tolerate any kind of retaliation in any form.

Whistleblowing refers to the act of speaking against or revealing practices that are illegal or wrong. Oftentimes, it has been seen that people who spoke against such things were either made to quit or were treated unfairly.

One of the most common ways of retaliation is reducing the wages of the employees. If you filed a complaint and noticed a significant reduction in your salary, it could be a telltale sign of retaliation. Similarly, if you find yourself getting demoted, that’s another sign of retaliation.

In addition, retaliation can also take the form of an employee being overworked or not getting any work at all. There were cases when the employees were made to work for long and extra hours and were not compensated for their work. If you feel you’re being treated unfairly, get advice from a lawyer on what you can do.

Another commonly reported case of retaliation is exclusion. This typically suggests that an employee deliberately gets excluded from meetings or work that proves to be damaging for their position at work.  There were cases when some employees were no longer invited or allowed to join meetings as a form of retaliation.

    Final thoughts:

It’s very important for employees to be on the lookout for these signs of retaliation at the workplace. once they file a complaint. If you find yourself in a situation where you feel you are being mistreated, as a form of retaliation, seek a lawyer’s advice right away. You shouldn’t have to go through such a situation.
