Guide for working with a League City criminal defense attorney

When charged with a crime in League City, you may find yourself in an utter state of shock. Regardless of whether you have committed the crime, you deserve to get help and hire an attorney. Firstly, don’t talk to the police, as that can go against you. In fact, you have the right to remain silent. Note that if the police read out your Miranda rights at the time of the arrest, when you hire an attorney, here are some guidelines for working with them.

    Don’t wait

That’s probably the best advice when it comes to getting legal advice. People often assume that they can wait to call a lawyer, and this leads to lost time. Lawyers have more time to work on a case and find valuable evidence when you contact them immediately after you are charged. Also, it is easier for the attorney to find witnesses. However, remember, it is never too late to find an expert. If you have missed the initial time, do it now.

    Be honest

Hiding damaging facts or information from your attorney in fear of embarrassment could be your biggest mistake. For example, if you have been charged with DWI in Texas and your attorney asks whether you have been charged in the past. If you lie to them, they will anyway find out in court or through sources. As you will never lie to your doctor about your injuries or symptoms, the same is true with lawyers. Also, anything you say to your attorney, whether you have already hired them or not, remains confidential.

    Follow their advice

That’s another thing to remember. A criminal defense lawyer is interested in the best outcome, as it is also about their reputation and credibility. Never listen to your friends or family members when it comes to advice. Let an attorney tell you what’s best for your circumstances. For example, if you want to consider a plea deal and your lawyer thinks the prosecution doesn’t have a strong case, listen to them and let the legal team make arguments.

    Final word

Find a reliable lawyer who is based in League City and discuss all the details. You have no reason to step back because a conviction could change everything, even when you are innocent. The prosecution won’t be nice to you, and the police are doing their job. A capable criminal defense lawyer is your best advocate and has your back in these trying circumstances.  sightwiki
